The Early Days of Sound Exploration
My journey into music began at a young age when I started experimenting with sounds and noises. I wasn’t confined to traditional instruments; instead, I used various electronics and percussions to create unique collage. Although they were not very musical, these early explorations laid the foundation for my lifelong love of music.
Building a Pirate Radio
Not having any music gear as a youngster didn’t deter my ambitions. I ventured into the world of pirate radio as a DJ, thanks to a modest FM transmitter I have built myself. Very modest start evolved into a more sophisticated setup using stable exciter based on the Veronica 1W PLL circuit, more powerful amplifier and stereo encoder. Broadcasting as “Utopia FM” locally in Belgrade, allowed me to share my favorite, mostly electronic genres including IDM, downtempo, DnB, with a wider audience. Utopia FM radio presented one of the most famous Yugoslav radio personalities, Zoran Modli, in his radio show called Modulacije.
The Shift to Music Production
As someone with ADHD, traditional instruments never quite held my focus due to my need for instant gratification. However, programming music felt quite opposite. It kept me engaged for hours, starting with my first PC and the ReBirth RB-338 software. This program allowed me to emulate the iconic sounds of the Rolland TB-303 known for its distinctive Acid bassline sound that has become a staple in electronic music.
Everybody needs a 303 (x3)
My passion for Acid sounds elicited my curiosity for synthesizers, leading me to build clones of famous devices like the Roland TB-303, TR-808, and TR-909. Although I like the raw sound of the hardware, I soon realized I am already acclimatized to a computer based setup and it`s flexibility. Eventually, I adapted to a computer-based setup. Today, collaboration with friends who play real instruments harmonizes perfectly with my creative vision. My DAW of choice is Ableton Live, where I continue to learn and explore the sounds and techniques, without limiting myself to a specific music genre. It represents a blend, drawing inspiration from all electronic music sub-genres, rock, dub and even jazz.
Project Fibra
My solo project, known as Fibra, which translates to fever in the Dalmatian dialect, has been an exciting journey in the world of music. One of the standout moments in my music career was when my track “Šalu na stranu” secured the 3rd place on the Belgrade Radio Studio B’s radio top10. This recognition has propelled my project further and opened doors for more opportunities in the music scene. Performing live as Fibra has been equally rewarding. I had the privilege of sharing the stage with talented artists, including percussionist Dejan Savić. Our collaboration led to memorable performances at various venues, including a live act on the Exit Festival demo stage.
